In March the municipal council accepted "Strategy for Sustainable Development" of Svishtov municipality, created with the help of Capacity 21 Project by UNDP.
On the 22nd of April Marta Ruedas - resident representative of UNDP Bulgaria opened "Information and Training Center". The center provides presentational and expository services, trainings, encouraging the business contacts, work with non-governmental organizations, supporting the interaction with the municipal authorities.
The Center has taken an active part in the social life of Svishtov.
During the year we were visited by:
- H.E. Baroness Henriette van Lynden - Ambassador, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Bulgaria;
- H.E. Mr. Yasuyoshi Ichihashi - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan;
- Mr. Roland Python - first secretary of the Swiss Embassy in Bulgaria.
In 2002 over 50 meetings were carried out in the Center, from which over 30 were Municipal and by the local Community Center; over 20 were meetings of non-governmental organizations; 6 trainings for unemployed and students, teachers and personnel. The general number of the participants in the trainings was over 200 people.
